Atlas Supply Company, our parentRoosevelt gives his Inaugural Address for his second term.

The Great General Motors Strike starts and spreads to six states pulling 45,000 men off production lines.

The Great Flood of 1937 swamps areas along the Ohio River.

Joseph Kennedy, Sr., is named U.S. ambassador to Great Britain. His sons, Joe Jr. and John, both work as international reporters for their father.

Chrysler Strike pulls 63,000 off production lines.

The first Social Security claims are paid.

Disney releases Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs during Christmas. The film is the first full-length animated feature (83 minutes in length) in color and with sound.

Nobel Prize for Physics awarded American Clinton Joseph Davison for for the experimental discovery of the diffraction of electrons by crystals.

Unemployment rises to 20 percent.

There were more labor strikes in 1937 than in any previous year. More than 4000 strikes occurred costing 28.4 million man-days of work.

And…

In 1937, Atlas Plumbing Supply – Immerse’s parent company – was founded by two brothers, Ben and Fred Suffian in St. Louis, with $5000 of borrowed money.

AND TODAY:

The company name was changed to Atlas Supply Company to reflect their deep and diverse inventory.  Mike’s son Joel, Mike’s daughter Leigh, and Bob’s son Brent now lead Atlas Supply Company.  And in 2012, Leigh Suffian opens Immerse, St. Louis’ premier studio for kitchen and bath plumbing fixtures. Where form and function meet fashion and style.
