What do I need to consider if I want a Steam Shower experience?
So you’ve heard about the numerous benefits of steam showers and are exploring adding one to your home. While it is much easier than one may think to create a steam shower at home, a few considerations must be taken to ensure the proper experience and longevity of your home.
The steamer and its controls will range in cost, starting with a basic package at a retail price of $2500. Experiences like music, light therapy, and aromatherapy can be added to this based on personal preferences.
Some important factors for installing a steam shower based on our experience, include:
Size Matters
Most importantly, the steam generator must be sized appropriately for the space so enough steam is produced. Several issues are taken into account such as room size, (especially ceiling height), insulation, number of outside walls, and wall material (tile, stone, marble, etc). Other factors such as shower door style and ventilation should also be discussed to ensure a seamless steam experience at home.
Location, Location, Location
The generator can be installed in a closet, vanity or heated attic. Make sure it is in an upright position. The steam head should be located approximately six to twelve inches above the floor on a wall opposite the seating area and away from the entrance. You will also want a convenient location for the steam shower control outside the steam shower.
Proper Seals
Make sure that your shower is properly enclosed and insulated. The shower door seal should be watertight and any windows double-paned.
Prevent Slips And Falls
Add anti-skid strips on your steam-room floor to mitigate the chance of slipping in the steam shower.
Seating
The importance of seating in a steam shower cannot be overstated when it comes to relaxing and fully embracing the numerous benefits of steam.
